The Logitech Harmony 1100 is both cool and expensive. There is no getting away from the price but this is a top quality piece of kit which is a most have if you love your gadgets/toys. This is the Ferrari of universal remotes – a joy to handle, gorgeous to look at and will compliment the highest of high end AV systems.
Unpacking the new Toy
Out of the box, the remote looks the part and has a good solid and comfortable feel to it. It has a grippy back, which should help prevent accidental drops. It’s anodised alloy on the front, with a rubberised reverse and feels great in your hands. You will need to charge the battery which takes about 5hours so this is a good time to install the software and note down all the kit you are going to use this remote to control.
Setup and Configure
The beauty about this product is all the setup is done on your PC and then programmed to the remote via usb. It supports 5000+ brands and 225,000+ devices, and the list grows every day. If you hit a snag, the Logitech Harmony 1100 has built-in step-by-step troubleshooting and live customer support is at the end of the phone, ready to help.
It’s got a nice touch-sensitive colour screen and some hard buttons for things like channel up & down, volume up & down, power off etc. Built-in is a motion-detector so it wakes up when removed from the charger. It is a two handed remote, It sits in its stand to keep it charged so no more batteries are needed.
Pros:
- Only ONE remote control now needs to be on show (and boy it does look good on show!)
- When not in use (e.g. overnight) it sits on it’s own re-charger (never need batteries again!)
- Decent size and responsive touch screen

- The remote has a built in “Help” system which takes you through each step if something didn’t do what you expected.

- Touch screen gets a bit grubby and needs a wipe over from time to time

Do I recommend the Logitech Harmony 1100 to people with a bunch of devices to control? Oh yes
Owning a logitech harmony remote will simplify your life and the 1100 is fantastic if your a bit of a gadget freak or lazy (perhaps even both). I would also recommend the Logitech Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 , the harmony 1100 is great for controling playback without feeling like you are using a games console.
